The following is a little about my Myofascial Release journey:
I graduated from SDSU in 2009 majoring in Psychology and minoring in Leadership and Management of NPOs. I worked as a field instructor in a Wilderness Therapy program in Utah until January 2012 when I slipped while hiking up a ridge carrying a 75 lb. pack. I sustained a back injury that ultimately derailed my career path and landed me in therapy for the next seven months. After seven months of physical therapy, acupuncture, massage, and chiropractic treatments, I had improved some, however still suffered from pain and relentless muscle spasms. At this time, the spine specialist I had been working with told me there was nothing more that could be done for me. He handed me a refillable script for muscle relaxers and pain killers, and wrote me off as having a permanent partial disability. I returned to my home state of South Dakota and enrolled at LATI in the OTA program. During the fall semester of 2014 the program instructor announced that a John F Barnes Myofascial Release course for pain relief was going to be held in Pierre. At this time, I had no idea what Myofascial Release was let alone who this John guy was. Quite honestly, I didn’t care. I just wanted pain relief so I signed up. The course was life changing. When the session concluded, I left a totally different person. I felt amazing. My pain which I had carried around for almost 3 years was gone, I had enormous amounts of energy, and all my motions felt more fluid and unrestricted. The small aches and pains I mostly ignored up to this point had also disappeared. I had not even realized how restricted my body was until it wasn’t. I had a new amazing sense of wellbeing and a fire had been lit inside me. I had found my passion in Life. Following graduation I worked as an OTA while completing requirements for LMT as well as continued training in myofascial release. In June 2017, I established Love Your Life Myofascial Release with the mission of helping others return to a pain free active lifestyle.
